Rules, Terms, and Guidelines
Selection of films is done by a local committee to reflect diverse perspectives. The films selected are generally appropriate for all ages over 13. Submissions may address controversial subjects in a professional manner, but should not be sexually explicit or portray images that demean, or are violent toward any person. Films in or with prior commercial release will not be considered. Preference will be given to films without significant exposure in northern Minnesota.
All projects must be completed within two years of submission deadline.
- First Deadline: October 1, 2011 $50
- Second Deadline: November 1, 2011 $60
- Final Deadline: December 1, 2011 $75
Students and Filmmakers in Northwestern Ontario and Northern Minnesota (Regional Art Councils 1 – 3) may submit films for a $10 fee.
Clearly label the DVD with entrant’s name, film title and running time. All films must be submitted on NTSC DVD’s and must be accompanied by a completed entry form and payment of the non-refundable fee. Every precaution will be taken to safeguard all materials submitted, but “On the Edge” cannot accept or assume responsibility in the event of loss or damage.
Please write a short (125 word) synopsis of the submission. List principal cast and crew, and a brief filmmaker biography. Please submit with the entry form.
If you would like to have submissions returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. We will be making two DVDs of accepted works and placing one copy into the public library circulating collection and a second copy saved for archival purposes.
All submitted materials become the property of “On the Edge” film festival with exclusive Northern Minnesota showing rights from date of receipt through May 2012. More than one entry is acceptable, but each entry must have a separate entry form and fee. All entries will be notified by email upon arrival. Multiple entries can be sent together in the same envelope.
All selected films are entered in the “On the Edge” Film Festival Audience Choice Awards. Awards will be given to films in each category that show significant technical and artistic achievement. There is no predetermined number of films accepted in each category, nor is there a set number of prizes. By submitting their film, entrants agree to abide by the final decisions of the “On the Edge” board. The board will seek to fill two nights (approx. 3 hours each) with submitted films.
Tips:
- Make sure your DVD is not blank and does not freeze or skip. Please take time to play and watch it all the way through on a different player than you used to burn it.
- Keep your submission materials simple. There is no need to create an elaborate marketing package. A plain white sleeve is sufficient. Put your energy and money into your crew, or your next film
- Please completely read the guidelines to ensure that your film is eligible for the “On the Edge” family film festival, and that your entry is complete and accurate. If you have questions, email entries@ontheedgefilm.org
- Prizes awarded are based on the number of films received. All entry money is given as prize money.
